Pie and wine. It’s the perfect pairing no matter what time of year. So, if you’re going to slice it up, do it right with the these delicious pie and wine pairings.
Pecan Pie – Moscato, Tawny Port
The caramel flavors in both the Moscato and Tawny Port go perfectly with the nuttiness of this pie.
Pumpkin Pie – Chardonnay
The smooth, creamy spices in pumpkin pie are accented by the decadence of a Chardonnay. It’s the perfect pie and wine pairing.
Apple Pie – Sauternes, Semi-Sparkling Moscato d’Asti
The tart filling of an apple pie is perfect for a sweet Sauternes or Semi-Sparkling Moscato d’Asti.
Coconut Pie – Riesling
The richness of this pie is nicely balanced with the acidity and low-alcohol of the Riesling.
Cherry Pie – Beaujolais or Ruby Port
They key to fruit pie and wine pairings is to match the flavors of the fruit with the fruit flavors in the wine. Soooo, the light floral and fruity notes in Beaujolais offer a lightness to a richer, tart cherry pie. You may also like Ruby Port.
Blueberry – Cabernet Sauvignon, Port
This pie and wine paring can be a bit tricky given the dark fruit in the pie so you want to find a wine with enough tannins to balance it out. Both a Cabernet Sauvignon and Ruby Port meet the challenge.
Lemon Chess and Key Lime
The tangy, creamy flavors in both pies are balanced with a sparking rose or you can also try a Gruner Veltliner or Pinot Grigio.
French Silk – Merlot
Banana Cream – Sauternes or Sauvignon Blanc
